Dalia Pidi Kozhukattai (Dumpling)

Having over Mom or Mom-in-law is always rewarding, personally and to my list of forgotten recipe treasure. Mom-in-law makes the regular rice rava pidikozhukattai. This visit she decided to replace it with healthy Dalia (broken wheat). The outcome was healthier and much tastier.

Dalia - 1 cup
Carrot - ½ cup grated
Green chilli - 1-2 chopped
Coriander leaves - 4 tsp. chopped
Curry leaves – 4-6
Mustard seeds - 1 tsp.
Asafetida (Hing) – ½ tsp.
Water - 1½ cup
Refined oil - 2 tsp.
Salt to taste

Roast the Dalia lightly in a pan and set it aside. Put the pan back on heat and add the oil in the pan. When the oil is heated, add the mustard seeds, asafetida, curry leaves, salt and water. When the water mixture comes to a boil, add the dalia and stir till it soaks up the water. Turn of the heat. Add the chopped coriander. Let it cool slightly. When the mixture is still warm, turn them into medium sized rolls or balls. Set the steamer/cooker on the gas and steam the mixture ball or pidikozhukattai for 6-7 minutes. Serve the with mint chutney.
